Why This Matters Now

As of January 1, 2025, the EPA has officially phased out R-410A refrigerant. Additionally, R-22 was phased out in 2020, and while limited inventories of both R-22 and R-410A have remained available, they’ve become extremely scarce or prohibitively expensive since early 2024 and into 2025.
This industry-wide refrigerant transition, driven by updated EPA regulations, has caused significant supply volatility and longer lead times across the HVAC market. The two primary replacements – R-454B and R-32 – are now standard in most new systems and require full-system replacements due to incompatibility with older refrigerants.
